Solving duplicating password requests

Sometimes, when you access a specific subfolder on the website, it might ask you to enter a password twice.

This happens in cases when the password is set not only for the subfolder, which you want to open but also to its parent directory.

It might be useful if you want to keep different sets of permissions for your website's visitors (with different passwords, they can access more directories). However, if that's not intended, you can easily remove the double password request:

  • Either move the password protection from the subdirectory to its parent directory

  • Remove any rewrite rules/redirects in .htaccess file(s) above the subfolder that you are trying to access

If password protection was set in hPanel, you can also manage access from the Password Protect Directories page.
