How to Upload Backups With the Import Website Feature

Uploading a backup using the Import Website feature at Hostinger

If you have developed your website locally or have an external backup, you can import it to your hosting plan in just a few clicks with the Import Website feature! Just follow these steps:

Step 1 - Preparations

Before uploading your backup, ensure that it meets the following requirements:

  • Your website files are on a compressed archive with .zip, .tar, or .gz format. If your compression format is different, extract your files and re-compress them using one of the supoprted formats

  • The file size is 256MB or less. For files exceeding 256MB, use the File Manager to manually upload and extract the archive

  • The file is stored on your local device

If your file size exceeds 100GB, use the FTP uploading method 💡

Once you've confirmed that your file is ready for import, proceed to the next step.

Step 2 - Import Your Website

Navigate to Websites → Manage. In the left sidebar, search for Import Website, and click on it:

On the following page, click on Choose a file to select your .zip, .tar, or .gz archive:

Afterward, click on Import and your archive upload will start.The duration of this process may vary depending on the size of your backup. Once it's finished, your content will be automatically extracted to your website's public_html folder 🚀
