Meeting the requirements to register a Portuguese domain at Hostinger

Updated over 2 months ago

A .pt domain is the country-code top-level domain (TLD) for Portugal. These domains are ideal for websites, businesses, and organizations based in or operating within the country.

Requirements

To register a .pt domain, accurate and valid information must be provided based on the type of registrant:

For individuals:

  • A valid tax number that matches the country of residence declared in the registrant’s address.

  • Full first and last names (abbreviations or single-character names are not permitted). The registrant's name must exactly match their identity document.

For companies:

  • A valid company VAT number that matches the country of residence declared in the registrant’s address.

Domain verification

After submitting your registration, the registry authority will review your application, which may take up to 10 days. If additional validation is needed, an email will be sent to the address provided during registration.

To ensure a smooth process, monitor your inbox and spam folder regularly during this period.

The email will include instructions for verification, such as submitting identity documents (e.g., passport, ID card, driver’s license, or business registration certificate). You must respond with the required documents within 2 days. Otherwise, the domain will be deleted, and it will not be eligible for a refund.

If the domain is deleted and you did not receive the verification email, contact us and we will investigate further.
