Shopify is a popular eCommerce platform that helps entrepeneurs and businesses create and manage online stores with ease. However, some store owners may find that an open-source solution like WooCommerce, which runs on WordPress, offers greater flexibility and control.
While converting your online store from Shopify to WooCommerce may seem complex, this guide will walk you through each step to ensure a smooth and successful transition.
Step 1 – Backup your Shopify store content
Log in to your Shopify admin panel and go to the Products page.
Click Export and choose the products you want to export in CSV format.
Repeat this process to export your customer and order data from the Customers and Orders, respectively.
This will create a backup of your store's essential data.
Step 2 – Set up your WooCommerce store
Add a website to your hPanel hosting plan and select the option to create a WordPress website using a temporary domain.
Follow the onboarding process, leaving the step to connect your domain until after the migration is complete.
Log in to the WordPress admin panel and install the WooCommerce plugin.
Complete the basic settings for your WooCommerce online store, including currency, tax rates, shipping methods, and payment gateways.
Step 3 – Transfer your Shopify store content
There are a few different tools you can choose from when migrating your store's content from Shopify to WooCommerce, offering a convenient way to automate the process.
Make sure to install, purchase and activate any plugins or extensions from the official vendors to avoid security risks.
Option 1 – Using a WordPress Plugin
Go to your WordPress Admin panel → Plugins → Add new plugin.
Search for an import plugin such as Cart2Cart or LitExtension.
Install and activate the plugin (purchase a license if required).
Connect your Shopify store with the plugin.
Select the data you want to move from your current store to WooCommerce, matching it to the corresponding WooCommerce fields.
Run a free demo migration (optional) or proceed with a full migration.
Option 2 – Using a WooCommerce Extension
Go to the WooCommerce marketplace and search for importing extensions, such as Shopify to WooCommerce Migration or Import Export Suite for WooCommerce.
Complete the purchasing process for the preferred extension, if applicable.
Install and activate the extension on your WooCommerce store.
Follow the extension's instructions to import your products, orders, and customer data.
Step 4 – Connect your domain
Once you've confirmed that your new WooCommerce store is fully functional, connect your domain to make it live. This will allow your customers to access your store seamlessly.
After the connection is complete, you can start managing and growing your store with WooCommerce 🚀
