Connect to your web or cloud hosting using FTP

Updated this week

An FTP account is automatically created by default after setting up your hosting (except when using the Hostinger Website Builder for all your websites). To locate the FTP details, go to Websites Dashboard, find FTP Accounts in the sidebar, and click on it.

There you will find your FTP details:

  • FTP IP – Your hosting IP, used as hostname to connect via FTP.

  • FTP Username – This value is unique per each domain or website added to your hosting plan.

  • FTP Port – The port value for plain FTP is 21.

  • Folder to upload files – The folder where you should upload your website's files is public_html for the root domain. You may go one level deeper if you want to upload files to a subfolder, but avoid going higher than the public_html folder, as they will not be publicly accessible.

  • Forgot your FTP password? – The option to set a new FTP password for the selected website.

  • Recommended FTP clients – The option to download and install an FTP client on your local device.

The main FTP details (IP, username and upload path ) are also displayed on the Details page of hPanel.

Managing your FTP password

For security reasons, the FTP password isn’t displayed in hPanel. If you’re unsure of the FTP password or you haven't set up one yet, you can create or update it by clicking the Change FTP Password button.

For hosting plans with SSH access, the SSH password defaults to the main domain's FTP password. However, you can create a separate SSH-only password if needed. Keep in mind that changing the main domain's FTP password will also automatically update the SSH password to match.
