How to set up WordPress Multisite at Hostinger

Updated over a week ago

WordPress Multisite is a feature that allows creating and managing multiple WordPress websites under one single installation, providing the convenience of running more than one site from one WordPress Administration dashboard.

At Hostinger, you can install and host WordPress Multisite! For more details, make sure to check this comprehensive guide: How to Activate and Manage WordPress Multisite.

How to Migrate WordPress Multisite to Hostinger

If you already have a WordPress multisite installation and wish to migrate it to Hostinger, consider the alternatives below.

With either method, some additional configuration may be required on your side after migrating to ensure full functionality. If needed, consider hiring a professional developer to take care of this process 💡

Hostinger Customer Success Team can only help with such a migration if the multisite network is based on subfolders (e.g., domain.tld/site1) or subdomains (site1.domain.tld) and if it’s migration to the same domain name.

Option 1 – Restore It From Backups

With this method, your WordPress Multisite is migrated from a backup of your files and database. It's useful in cases where your website is no longer online. Follow these steps:

  1. Download a backup of your files and database from your current hosting to your local device

  2. Create a migration request using the WordPress option and select the 'Upload Backup Files' option

    1. Drag and drop your website files in .zip format, and your database in .sql format

  3. Review the migration summary to ensure everything is correct, and click on Submit request.

NOTES:

Currently, the 'Upload Backup Files' option does not allow selecting a destination website. Instead, the backup is migrated to an automatically generated temporary subdomain. Once the migration is complete, you can easily connect it to your preferred domain.

If your websites under the multisite network are created as subdomains, once the migration is completed, please create your subdomains as mentioned in our tutorial starting from 6:55 before pointing your domain to our nameservers.

Option 2 – Migrate It Manually

You can migrate your website yourself as mentioned in this tutorial: How to Manually Transfer a Website to Hostinger.

If your websites under the multisite network are created as subdomains, once the migration is completed, please create your subdomains as mentioned in our tutorial starting from 6:55 before pointing your domain to our nameservers.
