Troubleshooting missing .htaccess file using File Manager at Hostinger

If you are looking for your website's .htaccess file and cannot find it, there are two possible reasons:

  • The file does not exist - in that case, you can simply create it

  • The file is hidden

In the second case, you can make it visible using the File Manager or via FTP.

File Manager

Files with a dot at the beginning are hidden files; however, on the File Manager, these are set to be visible by default. If you cannot see the .htaccess file, go to the File Manager Settings section, and uncheck the Hide dotfiles option:

Next, click on Update to save the changes. Now you will be able to see all hidden files, including .htaccess 😊

FTP client

If you are using an FTP client such as FileZilla, you can set it up to show all hidden files by default - just navigate to the Server menu and select Force showing hidden files:
