In order to upload a backup successfully an FTP client should be used, we personally recommend FileZilla as it’s one of the most popular FTP clients in the world.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) - is a standard network protocol used for the transfer of computer files between a client and server on a computer network.
Step 1 - Connecting to the Server
Option 1 - Using FTP
The process is like this:
- Install FileZilla (make sure you are installing FileZilla Client)
- Find your FTP details (hPanel or cPanel)
- Connect via FTP
Option 2 - Using SFTP
If your plan is Premium or higher you can use a secure SFTP connection to upload files. The process is like this:
Step 2 - Uploading files
After you connect to your account, open the public_html folder (or the folder where you want to upload files to) that is located on the right side of the screen:
If you have several sites in one account, the path to the public_html folder may be different:
On the left side, select the directory or files you want to upload, right-click, and select Upload:
Alternatively, you can simply drag the files from your computer straight to the public_html folder on FileZilla.
Once done, you will be able to see the progress live:
That’s it! Now you know how to upload a backup using FileZilla.
