If you’ve already built your website but want to use a different domain name for it you can easily change the domain name of your site in just a few steps.
Website Builder
If you use Hostinger Website Builder and want to connect a different domain to your site, you can do it in just a few clicks.
Before You Begin
If you've recently switched from another CMS to Hostinger Website Builder, you may not be able to change the domain yet.
Once you switch from another platform to the builder, you have 14 days to restore the original website built on another platform. During that time, you can't change the domain or delete the website. Instead, you may either:
Wait for the 14 days to be over, or
Click on Restore previous website, and you'll be able to change the domain right away
Also, note that by changing the domain of a website created with the builder, you'll lose all email data related to that domain, and your email plan will reset 🔄 To avoid the emails getting deleted, you can backup your emails.
Changing the Domain
Find the website in question in the Websites section. Then, click on the ellipsis ⋯ button and select Change domain:
Confirm you understand that all email data related to the domain will be deleted and that the DNS records will be reset, and click on Change:
Finally, choose the preferred domain to connect, and click on Change again. After changing the domain, your website will be up and running within 24 hours ✨
Once a domain itself is registered, it cannot be directly changed or swapped with another domain. This means that you cannot simply replace an existing domain with a new one. To use a different domain, you would need to register a new domain separately.
Wordpress, Hostinger Horizons or Other Types of Website
Before You Begin
By changing the domain of a website, you'll lose all email data related to that domain, and your email plan will reset. Email inboxes will not be automatically changed and will need to be re-created by following the guide below:
If there are any subdomains, they will also have to be re-created:
The subdomain files will remain intact; they should be recreated in the hPanel Subdomain Tool as described in the guide above.
Changing the Domain
Find the website in the Websites section. Then, click on the ellipsis and click Change domain:
Confirm you understand that all email data related to the domain will be deleted and click on Change:
Next, choose the new domain you want to use and click Change to confirm. Once the domain is updated, your website will be live with the new domain within 24 hours.
Generally, once registered, a domain itself can't be changed or edited. In other words, you wouldn't be able to give up an already registered domain and register another one instead of that one. As an alternative, you may register a new domain separately.
