Creating and adding a DMARC record to your domain's DNS zone

Updated over 10 months ago

DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance.

It's a DNS record (of TXT type) that helps protect email domains from phishing and spoofing attacks. DMARC records enhance email security by enabling domain owners to specify email authentication policies and receive reports on email traffic using their domain, ultimately reducing the risk of email-based fraud and improving overall email trustworthiness.

It's only two steps to create a DMARC record:

  1. Refer to DMARC Record Generator or DMARC Record Wizard to generate values for your DMARC record

  2. Once you have it, access your domain's DNS zone and create a new TXT record using the generated values and following this format:

Type

Name

Value

TTL

TXT

_dmarc

paste the value generated by the tool

default (14400)

After adding the new record to your domain's DNS zone, give it some time to propagate worldwide.

Besides the DMARC record, make sure to set up SPF and DKIM records, too 💡
