Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform, back-end JavaScript runtime environment that allows JavaScript code to run outside a web browser, that is, on the server side. This makes it useful for building fast and efficient applications.
Node.js requires root access to the hosting environment – for instance, to ensure all the libraries and modules are installed, updated, and enabled. Since root access is unavailable on our Web, WordPress, and Cloud hosting plans, the alternative is a virtual private server (VPS).
If you want to use Node.js with our VPS Hosting, we have a pre-made template for you: Ubuntu 22.04 64bit with Node.js and OpenLiteSpeed. It will automatically install the high-performance OpenLiteSpeed web server along with Node.js. OpenLiteSpeed also features an easy setup for SSL and RewriteRules.
This setup is over four times faster than Node.js with Nginx, so make sure to select it when purchasing any VPS plans and start using Node.js at Hostinger!
