Setting up 2FA on your Hostinger's profile

Updated over a week ago

Enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) provides an extra layer of security, preventing unauthorized access to your account. To set it up, log in to your hPanel, click on the profile icon, and choose Security:

On the Security page, you will see the list of available 2FA methods: application and email. Since only one 2FA method can be active at a time, select the most suitable one for you by clicking on its tab and then click on Enable:

The application authentication method is highly recommended as it provides more security compared to email authentication 🔒

Application authentication

This is our recommended method. First, you will need to install an authenticator app on your mobile device, such as Authy or NordPass.

After choosing the Application authentication method, you will receive a confirmation code in your registered email. Enter the code and click on Confirm. Next, scan the QR code with your mobile application and enter the numeric code it will generate:

After verifying, you will be presented with backup codes to use if you lose your device. Make sure to save or download them. Eventually, click on Finish setup.

NOTES

  • Backup codes are only shown once. If you did not save them, you can reset them by setting up 2FA again.

  • If you lost access to your 2FA device, contact us, and we will help you out.

Email authentication

If you choose the Email authentication method, you will receive a confirmation code in your registered email. Enter the code and click on Confirm.

After confirming, you will be presented with backup codes to use if you lose access to your email account. Make sure to save or download them. Eventually, click on Finish setup.

NOTES

  • Backup codes are only shown once. If you did not save them, you can reset them by setting up 2FA again.

  • If you no longer have access to your registered email, contact us, and we'll help you out.

How to disable 2FA authentication

While removing two-factor authentication is not recommended, you can disable it at any time – for instance, if you wish to improve your authentication method from email to application. Just click on the profile icon on your panel, choose Security, and select Disable:

Next, select the method to disable: using your original method (application or email) or using a backup code, and click Continue. Enter the code and click on Verify.

You will get a notification on the panel that two-factor authentication has been disabled and be presented with the option to enable application or email authentication once again.
