How to change the registrant of .UK domain

Changing ownership of your .UK domain name

Updated this week

If your domain is registered and transferred to Hostinger after 12 December 2024, you can explore two alternative methods for updating the contact details for your .UK domain name.

There are two ways to change the contact details of .UK domain depending on the type of information that you want to update:

Non-identity information

Identity information

  • The registrant and organization name remain the same

  • Only changing the address, phone number, and email

  • This procedure is done from the hPanel

  • It is free of charge

  • The registrant and organization names need to be updated

    • If the Registrant Contact is an individual, this means updating the Name of the Registrant Contact

    • If the Registrant Contact is a non-individual, this means updating the Company Name of the Registrant Contact

  • This procedure is done from Nominet control panel

  • It is a paid procedure

💡 In cases where the Identity information needs to be corrected (e.g., fixing a misspelling) in the Nominet control panel, the change is usually free of charge.

How to update non-identity information

Adjusting the Registrant Contact without changing the Identity can be made from hPanel by creating a new contact profile while keeping the type and Identity exactly the same.

This means the address, phone number, and email can be updated, but the registrant or organization name must remain the same.

You will receive a verification message to your domain's registered email address requesting approval of the change. If you are updating the email address as well, the message will be sent to both the current and the new addresses.

How to update Identity from Nominet panel

If you want to update Registrant Contact that are either individual or non-individual, the changes should be done from Nominet control panel.

Step 1 - Login to Nominet panel

Every registrant of .UK domain has an account created for them and you can log in to the Nominet control panel.

If you have never set up your Nominet account, you can select the option “Forgotten Password?”

Enter the domain registrant email address shown on your ownership page:

You will then receive an email containing a link to reset your Nominet account password.

Step 2 - Find the domain

Once reset, login using the same email address and the newly created password. If you logged into the correct account, you will find the domain listed on the homepage of the control panel:

Click on the dropdown option and it will open the domain details.

Step 3 - Update your Identity

Click on the Edit option of the Registrant, and you will find the Identity of the domain owner.

Once opened, enter the new identity of the Registrant and select the corresponding Registrant Type.

The reason for Change would also need to be provided in the form. Once everything is filled in correctly, select “Update details”

Step 4 - Wait for confirmation

A member of staff at Nominet will review the change request. You will receive an email to confirm when the change has been accepted or if they need further information from you in approximately 2 business days.
