Transferring .es domains to Hostinger

Updated yesterday

You can transfer your .es domain to Hostinger by following the steps below:

Step 1 – Preparation

Before initiating a domain transfer, make sure that:

  1. You have full ownership and control of the domain name.

  2. The domain is active – not suspended or canceled by the registry and not in the redemption period.

  3. You have a valid EPP/Auth code from your current registrar.

  4. If enabled, disable DNSSEC before transferring the domain.

  5. It is recommended to initiate the transfer at least 7 days remaining before its expiration date. Otherwise, consider renewing your domain with your current registrar before starting the transfer process to avoid service interruptions.

Renewal is not included with the transfer of .es domains – the expiration date will remain unchanged after transferring.

Step 2 – Gather the necessary details

Since the verification message can only be sent once, it's critical to make sure that the email address registered as the administrative contact for your domain is active and that you have access to it:

  • If you’re unsure which address is registered, verify with your current domain service provider. Log in to your account on their website and look for domain-related information. You may contact their support for assistance locating it

  • If you no longer have access to the registered email address, update your domain contact details with your current registrar.

You will also require a Spanish identification number:

  • For individuals: passport or identity card number (DNI).

  • For organizations: company registration number (NIF).

Step 3 – Set up the transfer

You have two alternatives to initiate the transfer process:

  • If you already have a Hostinger account, from the Domains Transfers section:

The Domain transfer options on the hPanel sidebar

In both cases, enter the .es domain name, click on Transfer, and proceed with the payment. Make sure to enter the EPP code when prompted.

The EPP/AuthCode expires 10 calendar days after it's created or as soon as it's used, whichever comes first. If it’s been more than 10 days, you’ll need to request a new code from your domain registrar before starting the transfer.

Next, navigate to the Home section of your hPanel and click on Setup next to the domain transfer order.

Fill in the transfer details:

  1. Select the country from the list and choose if the domain will be registered by an individual or a legal entity (company or organization):

  2. Provide the contact details: name, email, address, and phone number.

  3. Enter the passport or identity card number or company registration number.

  4. Select the DNS zone records you would like to use after the transfer.

    • If you’re going to use your domain with a hosting plan at Hostinger, choose the option Use Hostinger nameservers and DNS records.

    • To maintain the DNS zone with your current provider, select Keep existing nameservers – you can update the nameservers later at any time.

    • Select Use Hostinger nameservers but keep the existing DNS zone records if you want to manage the DNS zone here and keep the existing records.

Step 4 – Approve the Transfer

Transferring .es domains requires both an EPP code or authorization key, and an approval request that will be sent to the email address registered as your domain’s administrative contact. It may take up to an hour to arrive – make sure to check the spam folder as well.

The email will contain a link. Click on it and follow the instructions to accept the transfer.

If the transfer is not approved within 10 days, the transfer order will be automatically canceled.

Once initiated, the transfer might take up to 7 days to complete. After transferring, you will be able to manage your domain renewals and contact information from your Hostinger account.
