Setting up an FTP connection

Updated over a week ago

To connect to your FTP account and start transferring files, follow the steps below 👇

NOTE

Step 1 - Preparations

First, make sure that:

  • You have installed FileZilla client version on your device

  • You have your FTP information at hand. You can find it by opening Websites Manage, searching for FTP Accounts on the sidebar and clicking on it:

You can also find a detailed guide on how to obtain the FTP information here: How to find FTP details on hPanel. In case you forgot your FTP password, you can change it following these steps: How to change your FTP password on hPanel.

Step 2 - Connection

Option 1 - Direct Access

Open FileZilla and fill in the Quickonnect section with the FTP details you got from the FTP Accounts section:

  • Host: The FTP IP

  • User: Your FTP Username

  • Port: 21

Next, click on Quickconnect, and you will be connected to the FTP server 😊

If you encounter an Unknown certificate message, check the Always trust this certificate in future sessions option and click OK:

Option 2 - Site Manager

Unlike Direct access, with Site Manager, you are able to save your previous connection details, as well as change the encryption type or the protocol itself (FTP or SFTP).

Open Site Manager in FileZilla:

Click New Site:

Set the configuration you got from the FTP Accounts section:

  • Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol

  • Host: FTP IP from FTP Accounts section

  • Port: 21

  • Encryption: Plain FTP

  • Logon type: Normal

  • User: FTP Username

Click on Connect - and you will be connected to the FTP server 😊

That’s it! Now you know how to use connect to your FTP account using FileZilla.
