What to do if your website migration is rejected

Updated this week

A migration request could be rejected for several reasons, which require action from the customer side for the migration to be completed successfully.

Common Issues

Here is a list of the most common reasons why a migration could not be completed and how to solve these issues:

Issue

Solution

Incorrect login details

Double-check that the website login URL and credentials (admin username and password) are correct before submitting a request

Two-factor authentication is enabled on your previous provider

Temporarily disable 2FA until the migration is complete.

Domain is already pointing to Hostinger

Update your domain's nameservers or IP address to match the records of your previous hosting provider, and wait a few hours for propagation

Insufficient disk space to create backups

Delete unnecessary files on your previous hosting account, or upload your backup to a file-sharing service (such as Google Drive or Dropbox) and provide the link on the updated request

Failed to install a plugin

Check the error with the previous hosting provider and update the migration request once the issue is fixed.

An issue with the backup provided

Double-check to ensure the backup includes all completed website and database files. Re-upload the file backup (.tar.gz, .zip, .rar, or .tar) and database (.sql) by editing or resubmitting your migration request through your Hostinger control panel.

Unsupported CMS

Websites built on unsupported platforms or technologies, such as custom-built sites that are only supported on VPS plans or unsupported CMS, may not be migrated. For this case, manual migration or rebuilding of the website might be needed.

Account Suspended

Verify access to your service with the previous host and resubmit the migration. Alternatively, upload a backup file and database by selecting the "upload backup files" option while updating the migration request

The domain has already expired

Verify the status of your domain service or upload a backup file and database by selecting the "upload backup files" option when updating the migration.

Multisite

You can manually migrate or upload a backup file and database by selecting the "upload backup files" option while updating the migration.

Alternatively, you can select the "Other control panel" option and provide credentials for your previous hosting provider.

Custom URL for wp-admin

If you are using a custom login page for your WordPress admin, please update and resubmit the migration request in your Hostinger control panel. Enter your custom login URL in the "Website Link" field so we can log in and process your migration request.

If you have a full site backup, including database and web files, you can streamline the migration by selecting the "Upload Backup File" option in your migration request to upload it directly.

The database size is too big for the plan

Review the database size, and if you need assistance, consider optimizing it. Once that’s done, you can edit or resubmit your migration request.

Old hosting only has an FTP feature

To ensure a smoother migration to Hostinger, we strongly recommend against using FTP.

If you have a complete site backup, you can upload a backup and database files by selecting the "upload backup files" option while updating the migration.

Uncompressed files (SFTP/FTP)

Edit and resubmit the request by providing your website files and database in a single compressed file (in .tar.gz, .zip, .rar, or .tar format) so we can securely access them without missing any files.

If you have a complete site backup, you can upload a backup and database files by selecting the "upload backup files" option while updating the migration.

If your website uses WordPress or is managed through cPanel, you can create a new migration request and select the appropriate option (WordPress or cPanel)

Domain source not found

Review your account details to ensure the accuracy, or specify the exact source from which you would like to migrate "domain.com". This will help us avoid migrating incorrect data.

Once the issue is resolved, kindly update your migration request through your Hostinger control panel so we can proceed.

Server connection closed

Contact your previous provider to ensure the server is working and the backup can be downloaded, then resubmit the migration.

If you have a complete site backup, you can upload a backup and database files by selecting the "upload backup files" option while updating the migration.

Websites already hosted at Hostinger are not eligible for this process. If your request was rejected for this reason, you do not need to edit or create a new request. Instead, you can manually move your website to another hosting plan or Hostinger account.
