If you try to update the domain owner's contact details for an .es domain, you'll notice this option is disabled in hPanel:
This is because ESNIC — the authority of all .es domains — requires that any changes to the domain's owner contact details are made directly on their platform. However, you can still make changes to the Administrative or Technical contacts on your panel:
To change the domain owner's contact details, follow the steps below 👇
Step 1 – Send Us the New Owner's Details
The new domain owner must have a NIC identifier (see step 1 here).
Write down the new owner’s details, and send them to us. We will contact our .es domain registrar partner (Openprovider) and ask them to create new ESNIC handles for you. As soon as they do that, we’ll forward the new handles to you.
Once you have the new ESNIC handles, follow the further steps below.
Step 2 – Access Your nic.es Account
Log into your nic.es account using your NIC identifier and password (see step 2 here).
To find out your NIC identifier, search for your domain name at dominios.es. The identifier is shown under your registrant data:
If you don't have a password, click on Retrieve password.
Step 3 – Change the Domain's Contact Details
Head to the Domain Transfer Request section and enter your domain name (see steps 3 and 4 here):
Scroll down to fill in the new domain registrant's details (ACP) by inserting the NIC identifiers. Both identifiers can be the same in the case of persons. The ACP contact must not be a corporation:
Next, sign the application using an electronic DNI/certificate or by uploading a photocopy of the national identity or certifying document. Once done, click on Continue:
The maximum file size allowed is 4 MB. If you have issues attaching it, try resizing it until it is uploaded correctly.
STEP 4 – Confirm the Request
An email is sent to the new owner and administrative contact to confirm the request (see step 5 here).
If the current domain owner doesn't verify the request within 10 days, it's automatically canceled 💡
The current owner has to access nic.es using their NIC identifier and perform the following actions:
1. Accept the transmission process – click on Yes (see step 6 here).
2. Confirm the domain's data – there are options to change the registrar and nameservers. Make sure to indicate REGISTRAR.EU (our vendor code at nic.es, see step 7 here) as the accredited registrar:
3. Sign the transmission agreement – use an electronic DNI/certificate or upload a photocopy of the national identity or certifying document.
After that, you should receive a notification saying that the action is successful and is pending review (see the example in step 8 here). Once you do that, inform us about successful initiation, and we’ll again contact our .es domain registrar partner to finalize the process.
Finally, nic.es will review and verify the request. If everything is correct, it will be accepted. The process normally takes 5–7 days.
