What to do if the domain transfer status is “Transferring” or “Error”

After initiating a domain transfer to Hostinger, the process typically takes 5 to 7 days to complete. During this time, the domain transfer may go through different stages, each represented by a transfer status. This article explains what each status means.

How to check the domain transfer status

To find the current domain transfer status, go to the Transfers page of hPanel and click on Manage next to the domain name:

The status will be displayed next to the domain name:

  • Transferring – The domain transfer is in progress and should be completed within 7 days from the date listed in the Initiated on section. During this time, routine actions on your side may be required, especially for country-level TLDs such as .uk, .ae, .id, etc.

  • Error – Something went wrong during the process, and the transfer has stopped. To resolve the issue, you will need to take specific actions outlined in the progress bar.

In both cases, the required actions must be completed for the domain transfer to proceed 💡

Domain transfer errors and how to fix them

If an error occurs during the domain transfer, a descriptive message will appear, with more details about the issue and the option to retry the transfer once the required action has been completed:

Here is a detailed list of the most common messages:

Contact your domain provider and retry the transfer

This message may appear if the transfer was not approved or was canceled by the domain registrar. To resolve this, contact your current domain provider to confirm that the transfer can proceed. Once you have received confirmation, click the Retry button to resume the transfer.

Verify your email address to complete the transfer

A verification message is sent to the email address registered in the domain contact details. This message contains a link that you must click to continue the transfer.

Check the inbox of the email address associated with your domain (this may differ from the email associated with your Hostinger user account) and look for the verification message. Be sure to check your spam and other folders as well.

60 days must pass to transfer the domain

This message appears when the domain you are trying to transfer has been recently registered, transferred, or had its contact information updated. According to ICANN regulations, a domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of these events.

Since there is no way to bypass this rule, you will need to wait until the 60-day period has passed before you can initiate the domain transfer.

You can set a calendar reminder for yourself when this period ends to retry the transfer 📆

Domain Secret Key/Authorization Code (EPP) Is Incorrect

This message indicates that the Domain Secret Key, also known as the Authorization Code or EPP Code, provided during the transfer process is incorrect. You will find the option to enter the authorization code again:

Double-check the code entered is the same you received from your current domain provider exactly as provided, including any special characters.

If you're unsure or if the code doesn't work, contact your current domain provider to request a new Domain Secret Key/Authorization Code. The transfer will proceed after entering the correct EPP code.

Update information at Registro.br

When transferring .br domains, one of the following messages may appear depending on whether the provider, the organization, or both need to be updated to Hostinger at Registro.br:

  • Update provider at Registro.br

  • Update organization at Registro.br

  • Update provider and organization at Registro.br

To fix any of these issues, log in to your Registro.br account and update the relevant fields (provider, organization, or both) to HSTDOMAINS (127).

After updating the provider and/or organization, click the Retry button to proceed with the transfer.

What happens after retrying the transfer

Retrying the transfer will restart the process, meaning the 5-7 day period will begin again. If you encounter a different error message without a retry option, if the retry fails after completing the required actions, or if the transfer takes more than 7 days to complete, contact us for assistance.

Once the transfer is successful and the 5-7 day period has passed, the domain will be added to your Domains list, and you can manage all aspects of it, such as renewal or contact details.
